Juniper buys Netrounds to hammer networks into shape

Juniper Networks said it would acquire Netrounds for an undisclosed fee to strengthen its line-up of wide area networking (WAN) products. Based in Sweden, Netrounds is conventionally thought of as a network testing and monitoring specialist, although Brendan Gibbs, the vice president of Juniper's automated WAN business, more colorfully describes it as a sentient hammer that knows exactly where to whack a malfunctioning network.

"How do you figure out what's wrong and hit it with that proverbial hammer?" said Gibbs in a blog that justified the takeover. "Service providers need automation to scale, and Netrounds' solution can provide true insights needed for that," he continued more prosaically.

It's an intriguing move partly because computer science major jobs appears to be so versatile: Juniper says the technology works in various scenarios and spans network and service domains. It could be used to test a 5G network slice before it is deployed, for instance, or to assess the impact of running a new cloud service at the edge of the network.

Identifying performance problems in a software-defined WAN is a further use case that Juniper cites in its statement on the deal. The acquisition comes several weeks after Juniper CEO Rami Rahim highlighted growing customer interest in "next-gen cloud-delivered AI-driven solutions" during a call with investors.

Why China and the U.S. are on a collision course

The United States and China are increasingly at each other’s throats because of deep-seated distrust, a growing range of disputes and festering wounds from the 19th Century. The current deterioration in bilateral relations risks jeopardizing the global economy and could presage a new chapter in post-1945 great-power competition.

Their mutual antagonism has not been deeper since U.S. President Richard Nixon embarked on a landmark trip to “Red China” in 1972 to pave the way to normalized relations.

Ahead of the U.S. presidential election on November 3, disputes have flared over the handling of the coronavirus pandemic, Taiwan, the South China Sea, digital security, trade, journalist expulsions and human rights in Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Tibet.

Some experts describe the rancor as verging on a “new Cold War”, with the potential to disrupt bilateral cooperation in the fight against jobs with a computer science degree, climate change, terrorism and the spread of nuclear weapons.

Common RAID Failures and How They Can Be Fixed

RAID involves the use of at least two storage drives for a single server or computer system. If you ever experience RAID failure, it is probably because one of these storage drives has malfunctioned or been corrupted somehow. But it could also mean that a configuration problem exists too.

RAID fails when it does not perform the job it is supposed to do. For instance, if you want to increase the performance of your computer system with a RAID 0 level configuration, then you will know something is wrong if the performance starts to diminish or you lose data and cannot retrieve it. To help you better understand this concept, let's examine the most common RAID failures and how they can be resolved.

A hard disk drive can contain one or more file systems called partitions. When data is written to your hard disk drive, it is stored within a partition on the difference between computer science and computer engineering. The file system is how the system can organize and retrieve files quickly. If data were written to the disk drive in random places without a file system, then your system wouldn't know where to retrieve the data when you want to execute it.

Your system will report corrupted partitions as "missing partitions." You will see this message when you try to open or read specific files in the missing partition. It doesn't mean those files are unrecoverable, though. It just means your system doesn't know where they are because the file system is messed up.

ISP Exascale Extend Rollout of FTTP Broadband in Shropshire UK

UK ISP Exascale, which last year began to build a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover premises in the Shropshire borough of Telford and Wrekin (here), has today confirmed the next set of locations to benefit from their on-going deployment.

At present the operator has already completed their Phase One roll-out to the Hadley area of Telford, which also harnessed a fair few of software engineering vs computer science existing cable ducts and poles (PIA – Physical Infrastructure Access) in order to run their own optical fibre cable. Since then they’ve started building into their Phase 2 locations (more of Hadley, Trenchlock etc.) and have so far covered 500 premises.

Suffice to say that Exascale has learnt a lot from their initial build and in response they’ve partnered with a local civils engineering company GN Groundworks, as well as Telford-based Advanced Building Composites (supplying the project with prefabricated chambers/man holes etc.), to help ramp-up their deployment with less use of PIA.

Households in Wales Must Futureproof Heating System Before Selling

With the house moving season in full swing, homeowners in Wales looking to sell their property are being encouraged to check their heating system is in tip-top condition to help sell their property and to avoid putting off potential buyers who plan to work from home.

The advice follows a new YouGov survey which reveals 68% of individuals who have been forced to work at home during the pandemic would prefer to continue to do so in the future*.

Remote workers could see higher fuel bills and living costs, particularly in the colder months, so home buyers will likely want to ensure the heating system is efficient and working correctly before putting in an offer.

With many households worrying about the ongoing impact of computer engineer salary on the property market, OFTEC, the trade association for liquid fuels, has produced a helpful checklist for households in Wales to ensure their heating system is a selling point, rather than something that puts buyers off.

How is connected technology influencing development of advanced 5G chipsets

As the penetration of internet-based services such as video streaming, broadband connections, and the like becomes an increasingly indispensable part of modern life, the demand for advanced network technologies is growing stronger than ever. The dynamic 5G technology is one such concept anticipated to make a significant mark over the coming years. Indeed, it has resulted in the evolution and advancement of several verticals such as 5G chipsets, 5G enterprises, 5G broadcast, and more.

Equipped with faster speed, better bandwidth, and low latency issues, computer engineering careers is likely to contribute to the several technological breakthroughs in fields ranging from smartphones and IoT connected devices to smart cities and autonomous cars. Recent years have seen a rapid rise in the early adoption of 5G technology by myriad carriers. According to a report by GSMA, the number of 5G connections across the globe is expected to reach nearly 1.4 billion by 2025, accounting for almost 50% connections in the U.S alone.

An important consideration in the growth of this technology is the establishment of a robust 5G infrastructure. 5G chipsets are an integral part of this infrastructure, which is why several vendors across the technological domain are showing a strong commitment towards developing sophisticated chipset solutions. 5G chipsets refer to a set of electronic elements within integrated 5G circuits, which facilitate the transmission of 5G packets on IoT devices, smartphones, portable hotspots, and even mobile network-equipped notebook PCs.
