Delivery of preventive care and chronic disease management are key components

Delivery of preventive care and chronic disease management are key components of a high functioning primary care practice. Health Centers (HCs) funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) have been delivering affordable and accessible primary health care to patients in underserved communities for over fifty years. This study examines the association between health center organization’s health information technology (IT) optimization and clinical quality performance.

METHODS AND FINDINGS: Using 2016 Uniform Data System (UDS) data, we performed bivariate and multivariate analyses to study the association of Meaningful Use (MU) attestation as a proxy for health IT optimization, patient centered medical home (PCMH) recognition status, and practice size on performance of twelve electronically specified clinical quality measures (eCQMs). Bivariate analysis demonstrated performance of eleven out of the twelve preventive and chronic care jobs with computer science degree was higher among HCs attesting to MU Stage 2 or above. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that Stage 2 MU or above, PCMH status, and larger practice size were positively associated with performance on cancer screening, smoking cessation counseling and pediatric weight assessment and counseling eCQMs.

JNU will now allow international students to enrol at its School of Engineering

International students will now be able to enrol at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)’s School of Engineering.

In a meeting held on 22 June, JNU’s apex Academic Council approved a proposal for 15 per cent supernumerary seats for foreign students at the School of Engineering. The thought behind the move is that it will help the school internationalise its student input, bringing in diversity.

The minimum eligibility criteria and other ancillary requirements for this programme are defined through the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s Direct Admission for Students from Abroad or information technology vs computer science. Screening and admission under DASA is primarily based on SAT subject scores (Mathematics Level-II, Physics and Chemistry).

However, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the admission process is delayed for this year, and is expected to start in September.

JNU vice-chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar told ThePrint: “Particularly those foreign nationals residing in NCR and in the rest of the country would find this opportunity highly rewarding.”

Carey Smith’s Path to Success: Engineering, IBM and Country Music

Carey Smith was introduced to engineering by her father, and after visiting a career fair, excelling in math and getting her start at IBM, she not only made a living supporting the defense and intelligence sectors through engineering, but rose to the executive ranks to do so.

Smith is the president and chief operating officer at Parsons Corp., where she has been since November 2016. She’s responsible for the company’s global profit and loss spanning its Federal Solutions and Critical Infrastructure segments, product management and operations support functions.

Growing up in Alliance, Ohio, what is computer engineering father was an engineering and sales executive for longstanding domestic manufacturer Morgan Engineering, and he always wanted his three children to become engineers.

Hand Tools Association seek govt support to boost mnfg, exports of engineering goods

MSMEs body Hand Tools Association on Tuesday suggested a host of steps to the government such as tax incentives, modern infrastructure and special focus on small and medium enterprises with a view to boost local manufacturing and exports of engineering goods.
Hand Tools Association President S C Ralhan said aggressive boost from the government and greater focus on reverse engineering based R&D is required for local manufacturing of higher valued engineering goods.

He said China became the factory of the world due to a number of reasons- such as strong support to industry in terms of subsidised land and building, and investments of billions of dollars in software engineering vs computer science, internal infrastructure.

For India to cash in on the current sentiment and attract investments which are shifting out of China is an uphill task, because building of infrastructure can take years, Ralhan said.

"Considering the current global scenario ,due to the Covid 19 pandemic, if India is to match the manufacturing prowess of China, the government has to support local manufacturing of higher valued engineering goods, encourage Indian manufacturers for local production, over and above attracting foreign companies to invest in India through FDI (foreign direct investment ) and FPI (foreign portfolio investment), and provide greater focus on the MSME sector," he said.

6 Egyptian engineering products worth $1.3bn top world's 2019 most exported list

The Engineering Export Council of Egypt (EEC) has announced that exports of six Egyptian-produced engineering products have topped the list of top 10 exporters worldwide in 2019.

The EEC said that the total value of the six, including washing machines, electric heaters, televisions, stoves and copper cables, reached computer science engineering. The 2019 figures also mark a substantial rise on the three engineering products that made the top 10 list in 2018.

The most significant importers of Egyptian engineering products over 2019 were the UK with 11.5%, the UAE with 8.3%, Slovakia 8%. Saudi Arabia followed behind with 6.8%, Hungary with 6.2%, France with 6.1%, Iraq with 4.3%, Algeria with 4.3%, and Libya with 3.6%.

The council noted that it would continue its work in the coming period to support, and enhance Egyptian exporters, whilst providing support to help local exporters overcome obstacles.

Peachee Named Engineering Employee of the Quarter

David Peachee has been named College of Engineering employee of the quarter for the third quarter of fiscal year 2020.

Peachee is a research technician in the Department of Civil Engineering.

His nominator praised Peachee's technical skill and can-do attitude as critical assets to the department.

"Since my first day here at the University of Arkansas, David has always represented the best of our College," the nominator said. "David's friendly and open personality makes David very approachable. Whether my students and I are installing a new piece of equipment, moving existing equipment, adapting existing equipment for new tests, or receiving training for new procedures, David is eager to assist in whatever way possible."

Micah Hale, head of the Department of computer engineering vs computer science, echoed that praise.

"David is one of the most important members of our department," he said. "The teaching, research, and service mission of our department is better because of David. He helps build the equipment we use in our teaching and research laboratories. He helps us set up, instrument, and conduct our research experiments. He is asked to work on a variety tasks with a variety of individuals, but no matter the project, David is always willing to help and he does so graciously."

Employees of the quarter receive a monetary award and is recognized at the College of Engineering faculty and staff meeting. The program is administered by the College of Engineering Staff Council.

Engineering develops 3D printable face shields to strengthen

Engineering have developed 3D printable protective face shields for frontline healthcare workers to safeguard them in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. The first set of 100 face shields each have been delivered to Stanley Medical College and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai.

A team of three faculty members Dr Kavitha A, Dr Pravin Kumar S and Nithya R along with three undergraduate students Sandhanakrishnan R, Kesavaraj V and Rajkumar AJ from the department of Biomedical Engineering have developed the face shields. The shields are worn over masks and cover the entire face and neck to avoid direct contact with the virus.

Taking lead from Prusa, a 3D printing company based in Prague, Czech Republic, the face shields developed by the team from information technology vs computer science have been further modified the design based on doctor's suggestions. These transparent face shields are biocompatible and made of medical-grade 0.4 mm thick APET sheets (Amorphous-PolyEthylene Terephthalate, thermal plastic and part of the polyester product family).

New silicon chip ‘fingerprint’ for stronger hardware security at low cost

A team of researchers from NUS Electrical and Computer Engineering has developed a novel technique that allows Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs) to produce more secure, unique ‘fingerprint’ outputs at a very low cost. This achievement elevates the level of hardware security even in low-end systems on chips.
Traditionally, PUFs are embedded in several commercial chips to uniquely distinguish one silicon chip from another by generating a secret key, similar to an individual fingerprint. Such a technology prevents hardware piracy, chip counterfeiting and physical attacks.
The research team from NUS has taken silicon chip fingerprinting to the next level with two significant improvements: firstly, making what is the difference between computer science and computer engineering; and secondly, enabling them to self-conceal.

Flaws Riddle Zyxel’s Network Management Software

Security researchers are warning that networking hardware vendor Zyxel and its Cloud CNM SecuManager software is chock-full of unpatched vulnerabilities that kick open the doors for hackers to exploit. In all, researchers have identified 16 vulnerabilities, ranging from multiple backdoors and default credentials to insecure memory storage.

The Zyxel CNM SecuManager is a networking management software solution that provides an integrated console to monitor and manage enterprise security gateways, such as the company’s own ZyWALL USG and its VPN series products. When contacted by Threatpost, Zyxel would not say how many users of the product there are, only that the number was “what does a computer engineer do.”

However, security researchers Pierre Kim and Alexandre Torres wrote in a report posted Monday that “the attack surface is very large and many different stacks are being used making it very interesting. Furthermore, some daemons are running as root and are reachable from the WAN. Also, there is no firewall by default.” The report outlined the more than a dozen flaws.
